Sometimes in the seeking I'm so overwhelmed by the possibilities that fear paralyses me and I feel like I can barely breathe. The weight of the gift is pressing down on my chest, and I don't know If I'll ever get through it. At this time in my life more than any other, or in fact for the first time in my life, I feel alone. Like a desert island, no ships breaking on my shore. And yet I know I need this. A simple time to gather my thoughts, a pause in time to find my way. But in the silence sometimes all I can hear is my heartbeat. That heavy muscle banging on a steel drum. And so I turn the music louder, to drown it out, wishing away the the thoughts that chase me. But when I dare, I stop and turn down the white noise, and hail to the Creator, I seek an audience with Him. I need more life breath to keep me here. Peace to transcend my weary thoughts. I decided it was time to make something new, but since I've got the flu, nothing too strenuous or mind consuming, and just as I was trawling my way through some other blogs I like, I came across tshirt shredding, or as I prefer to call it un-knitting. I mean thats basically what it is, unpicking a tshirt to make it look cooler than before! But, you know since I'm un-knitting, I'm not really sure if I'm acheiving anything, or if I'm even unachieving. But I guess it depends if my goal is to achieve or create? I would like to introduce you to a designer called Julian Roberts, I have memories of stories about him, but truth be known, I have only just discovered him for myself. I discovered Julian for real, whilst researching 'pattern magic' with a friend, this bright sunday afternoon after eating Chinese food. So bright, so new, techniques I could only have dreamed of and yet here below you will find links to this creator available and free to all. Why? So I was just dreaming about designing things while I was on the metro today - never throw away ideas that seem temporal, with a little discipline you can transform fleeting moments into eternal reality - when I started to get down to it, I was thinking about what makes a good design or what makes a design good. The eternal question what separates bad design from good? I hope one of the answers is "A sketch book" ! Ha ha good joke, but as foolish as you may think it, good research and a dash of divine inspiration is probably the best way to make your designs succeed... What do I mean? Let me explain: since fashion and design objects are applied art, I think that means they have to have a purpose, so let us assume that an object's purpose is to be bought and used. Therefore, whilst expressing creativity maybe our primary goal as a designer (as opposed to an artist), it's no good drawing away, if noone wants to be caught wearing your garments.
